iPhone 16 Pro design predictions: Expected designs for the top two models

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to be Apple’s most popular phones of 2024, so it’s not inconceivable that the company will do its best to make them look as good and premium as possible.

Does this mean drastic design changes from the iPhone 15 line? Well, not necessarily, as Apple’s devices are undeniably well designed. But leaks and rumors do suggest that some changes are on the way for these upcoming models.

Below, you’ll find all the design leaks we’ve spotted so far. Together, they paint a pretty clear picture of what to expect visually from the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

iPhone 16 Pro design predictions

Dimensions: To be determined
Weight: More than 187g
Material: Glass and titanium
Screen size: 6.3 inch

The iPhone 16 Pro could be larger than the iPhone 15 Pro and have an extra button, but otherwise it looks similar to its predecessor if the leaks are to be believed; see the leaked image of the iPhone 16 Pro above.

As for the dimensions, we don’t know the exact dimensions yet. However, multiple sources claim that the iPhone 16 Pro will have a 6.3-inch display, up from the 6.1-inch of its predecessor.

That likely makes the device as a whole larger than the iPhone 15 Pro (146.6 x 70.6 x 8.3mm). However, the iPhone 16 Pro’s bezels are apparently smaller, down from 1.71mm to 1.2mm.

That could help keep the device more manageable, though the iPhone 16 Pro will likely be taller and narrower than the iPhone 15 Pro, given rumors that the aspect ratio has changed from 19.5:9 to 19.6:9.

We suspect that the larger screen size will also result in the device being heavier than its predecessor, which weighed 187 grams. Hopefully, the difference in weight won’t be too drastic.

The other notable design change we’re expecting is the addition of a Capture button next to the power button. This much-rumored feature will reportedly let you take photos and shoot video, while a lighter press could activate autofocus and swiping over it could zoom in and out.

Beyond these and some new colors for the iPhone 16 Pro, we expect Apple’s upcoming Pro phone to look a lot like the current model, with a glass back, a titanium frame, the same basic shape and button layout, and the same camera array.

One early leak suggested that the Face ID components could be hidden beneath the display, which would make the Dynamic Island much smaller since it would only need to house the front-facing camera. But we’ve not heard this mentioned anywhere else, so we doubt it’ll happen.

iPhone 16 Pro Max design predictions

Dimensions: 163.024 x 77.575 x 8.26 mm
Weight: More than 221g
Material: Glass and titanium
Screen size: 6.9 inches

The iPhone 16 Pro Max will likely share the same design as the iPhone 16 Pro, just in a larger size. That is to say, it will also likely look and feel like the iPhone 15 Pro Max, just bigger and with an extra button.

That button is presumably called the Capture button and as described above, it should control the camera. The button is located below the power button on the right side.

In terms of size, we’ve heard repeatedly that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will sport a 6.9-inch display. That puts the display 0.2 inches larger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

That will presumably make the phone larger overall, though we’ve heard elsewhere that the iPhone 16 Pro Max could have the thinnest display bezels of any phone. That could mean there’s not much difference in terms of overall dimensions.

One leak, however, details the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s exact dimensions, claiming it will be 163.024 x 77.575 x 8.26mm. That would make it taller, wider, and thicker than the 159.9 x 76.7 x 8.25mm iPhone 15 Pro Max, but not by much. Part of that size change could also be due to a rumored 19.6:9 aspect ratio for the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s display, instead of the 19.5:9 of its predecessor.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max will also likely be heavier than its predecessor at 221 grams, but we don’t know by how much yet.

Aside from that, and the possibility of some new colors, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will likely look a lot like the iPhone 15 Pro Max, complete with a titanium frame, a glass back and the same general layout and shape, as you can see in the leaked images of the iPhone 16 Pro Max above.

Finally, one source has suggested that the Dynamic Island could be much smaller, with the Face ID components hidden beneath the display. We’re skeptical of this, though.
