While the iPhone 16 series will undoubtedly have better specs than the iPhone 15 series, it’s unclear whether prices will also increase.
Some years prices go up, some years they don’t, and there’s even a small chance they could go down. What makes it even more complicated is that sometimes Apple raises prices in some regions and not in others.
So, we can’t say for sure what price you’ll pay for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, or iPhone 16 Pro Max just yet. That said, we can make some predictions based on rumors and previous forms.
iPhone 16 price predictions
A good starting point for predicting the price of a phone is the price of the previous model. In the chart below, you can see how much the iPhone 15 costs in various configurations.
Storage | American price | UK price | AU price |
128GB | €799 | €799 | AU$1,499 |
256GB | €899 | €899 | AU$1,699 |
512GB | $1,099 | €1,099 | AU$2,049 |
Apple isn’t one to normally slash prices on new models, so it’s likely you’ll pay at least that much for the iPhone 16. But it’s not impossible the price will be lower, especially since a report from mid-2023 suggested Apple would switch its A17 Pro chipset to a more affordable manufacturing process sometime this year.
That’s relevant because the A17 Pro will likely power the standard iPhone 16. If Apple lowers the chipset’s production costs, it’s possible the company could make the phone cheaper for customers, too.
We doubt that, though. More likely, Apple is pocketing the savings or spending them on other improvements, and this is an old leak, so it may not be accurate.
More likely, we’ll see a price hike, especially since an October 2023 report revealed that production costs for the iPhone 15 line are higher than the iPhone 14 series.
Despite this, Apple has kept prices for its latest phones largely the same. However, if production costs continue to rise, a price increase for the next devices seems likely.
We’re not expecting a dramatic increase, but for the iPhone 16 we’re expecting a price somewhere between the iPhone 15’s $799 / £799 / AU$1,499 starting price and a starting price of around $899 / £899 / AU$1,649.
iPhone 16 Plus price predictions
The situation with the iPhone 16 Plus will likely be similar to that of the iPhone 16. If one of these models gets a price increase or decrease, the other model will likely see a price increase or decrease as well.
First, let’s take a look at how much the iPhone 15 Plus costs. You can see that in the chart below.
Storage | American price | UK price | AU price |
128GB | €899 | €899 | AU$1,649 |
256GB | $999 | €999 | AU$1,849 |
512GB | $1,199 | €1,199 | AU$2,199 |
If prices for the iPhone 16 Plus are the same – and they very well could be – you’ll pay a starting price of $899 / £899 / AU$1,649.
However, the same factors could influence the price here as with the standard iPhone 16, meaning that if the chipset gets cheaper (as rumored), the price could drop. But if production costs go up (which they likely will, given that they seemed to do so last year as well), then the price will likely go up, at least in some regions.
In that case, the starting price could be estimated at $999 / £999 / AU$1,799. We think that’s more likely than a price drop.
iPhone 16 Pro price predictions
While it’s certainly possible that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will increase in price, it seems even more likely that the iPhone 16 Pro will see a price increase. We’ll explain why in a moment, but first, let’s take a look at how much the iPhone 15 Pro costs. You can see its full price in the chart below.
Storage | American price | UK price | AU price |
128GB | $999 | €999 | AU$1,849 |
256GB | $1,099 | €1,099 | AU$2,049 |
512GB | $1,299 | €1,299 | AU$2,399 |
1TB | $1,499 | €1,499 | AU$2,749 |
So, this is likely the minimum the iPhone 16 Pro will cost, but there’s a good chance it will cost more. For one, the cheaper chipset that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus may get (described above) won’t be making it to the iPhone 16 Pro, with that phone almost certainly set to feature a new – and pricey – A18 Pro chipset.
There are currently no leaks pointing to a price drop, but given the rising production costs for the iPhone 15 line, the price could increase.
Additionally, a leak suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro Max – and possibly the iPhone 16 Pro – will feature a new type of camera lens. This lens would have some benefits, but would also reportedly cost more to manufacture – an increase that could feed into the phone’s price tag.
While we expect the iPhone 16 Pro to cost at least $999 / £999 / AU$1,849, there’s a good chance it will cost more. We’d estimate the starting price to be around $1,099 / £1,099 / AU$1,999.
iPhone 16 Pro Max price predictions
Of all the iPhone 16 models, it’s the iPhone 16 Pro Max that will likely see the biggest price increase over its predecessor.
Much the same applies here as with the iPhone 16 Pro: there are no leaks pointing to a lower price, and rising production costs could very well mean a price increase, especially since one leak (detailed above) specifically suggested a potential more expensive camera lens would be used.
Storage | American price | UK price | AU price |
256GB | $1,199.99 | €1,199 | AU$2,199 |
512GB | $1,399.99 | €1,399 | AU$2,549 |
1TB | $1,599.99 | €1,599 | AU$2,899 |
So how much are we talking about? Well, we think the iPhone 16 Pro Max will cost at least the same as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which you can see priced in the chart above.
But based on potentially more expensive camera lenses and the general rising cost of production, we think a starting price of around $1,299 / £1,299 / AU$2,349 is more likely.
There’s also talk of an iPhone 16 Ultra, which could replace or even replace the iPhone 16 Pro Max. We’re not sure if we’ll actually see that, but if we do, it’ll certainly cost more than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
