iPhone 15 could be the first to come with sturdy, colorful cables in an Apple phone

Apple is tipped to signal its move from Lightning to USB-C connectors for the iPhone 15 line with new braided cables in a selection of iPhone-matching colors.

Mac Rumors reports that the iPhone 15 range (consisting of the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max) will come with color-matched braided USB-C cables. The use of braid should make the cables more durable against the rigors of extended use and better retain their colors.

Speaking of which, a somewhat reliable tech tipster on X (aka Twitter) Unknown 21 noted that Apple apparently tested a variety of colors on the base iPhone 15 and as such we can expect some colors on the next generation of iPhones. They are ‘pink/rose gold/blush gold’, ‘green’, ‘blue’, ‘yellow’, possibly ‘orange’ and then ‘black/midnight/dark/basalt’.

The report on colorful cables follows an earlier rumor that listed all possible colors for the iPhone 15. Taken together, it gives us a clear picture of what the colors of the iPhone 15 could be, and confirms that Apple is targeting an annoying iPhone flaw.

This gel with a previous report indicating the number of colors Apple had ever tested before the release of the iPhone 15. Not all of these colors are expected to hit the market, and coupled with the rumor about the braided cables, it’s likely that the iPhone will be available in the colors white, black, yellow, purple and orange.

Please note that these colors may not be an exhaustive list of all iPhone 15 colors. Apple and other phone makers routinely test multiple colors on their phones before rolling out three or four, with a select few launching some colors as post-launch incentive. For example, Apple debuted a green iPhone 13 and a yellow iPhone 14 after its release.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 15 on September 12 or 13.

Orange is the new blue

Blue seems to be this year’s phone color for summer. The Pixel 7a has a nice shade of blue, just like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. The iPhone 14 came with a flagship blue color, so Apple could have gone with a different shade of blue this time, perhaps cyan or light blue, as some reports indicated.

However, judging by an image shared by fellow tech tipster Kosutami, orange could be the brand new color Apple is introducing to its flagship iPhones. If so, it would be a nice pop of color and could go well with a Halloween costume, should the rumors affect iPhone purchasing decisions in October. More importantly, they will serve to create a visual distinction between the last iPhone generation and the current one, as Apple often does.

And if Apple goes that far, it might go a step further and make its USB-C cables colorful. It’s not that you can’t buy colorful braided USB-C cables, you can. But these will reportedly ship with the iPhones themselves, and they’ll fix one of Apple’s most recurring and annoying problems with iPhones: the infamous fraying lightning cables.

More color and more confidence? The USB-C era of the iPhone would be off to a good start, we say.
