iOS 18.2 could add Battery Intelligence to your iPhone, letting you know how long it takes to charge
It seems Apple is all about ‘intelligence’ these days as, following the launch of Apple Intelligence, the company is about to roll out a feature called Battery Intelligence. But unlike Apple Intelligence’s tools, this new feature will apparently only have one job.
9to5Mac has found a framework called ‘BatteryIntelligence’ in the code of the latest iOS 18.2 beta, and while the feature isn’t active in the beta, it’s reportedly designed to estimate how long it will take to charge your phone .
According to 9to5Mac, Battery Intelligence not only estimates the time it will take to reach 100%, but you can also choose to get an estimate of when your battery will reach 80%, and perhaps other charge levels as well.
It’s easy to see how this could be a useful tool: if you don’t need to charge for a long time, you’ll immediately get an indication of how fully your phone can be fully charged in a given amount of time. Or if you don’t want to charge your phone beyond a certain level (to preserve battery health) but haven’t set a charging limit, you know to check after however much time the estimate shows.
We may not get this in iOS 18.2
However, since this feature isn’t currently enabled, it’s unclear if it will actually launch as part of iOS 18.2. It could instead appear with iOS 18.3 or later, and it’s always possible that Apple will choose not to roll out this tool at all.
Still, there’s a good chance that Battery Intelligence will launch, and since the framework for it is present in the iOS 18.2 beta code, we think it’ll probably be sooner rather than later.
Either way, there’s plenty more to get excited about in iOS 18.2, with plenty of new AI tools on the way, including Image Playground, Genmoji, ChatGPT integration, and Visual Intelligence.
iOS 18.2 will also add improvements to the Camera Control button and Find My feature, and these should arrive soon, with iOS 18.2 reportedly coming in early December.
