The police have launched an investigation into the death of Italian footballer Gabriele Gallani in Amsterdam after he fell into a canal.
ASD captain Piccardo Traversetolo, 24, died in hospital on Saturday morning after being rescued from the canal by emergency services.

His disappearance was reportedly not immediately noticed, as Gallani followed his friends.
Gallani was in critical condition when divers found him in the water, with police, ambulances and an air ambulance being called to help him.

Gallani was taken to hospital but died a few hours later.
Police have launched an investigation into Gallani’s death, with officers reportedly reviewing CCTV footage.
Investigators also called for information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
“The detective is looking for witnesses who know more about how the victim ended up in the water,” a police statement reads.
‘At around 00:35, officers on the street receive the message to go to Kloveniersburgwal. On site they find bystanders who say that someone is in the water.
Several firefighters also arrive on the scene and manage to get the victim out of the water, after which he is resuscitated and taken to hospital. The victim later dies in hospital.’
Italy’s fifth tier side ASD Piccardo Traversetolo posted a tribute to Gallaini on social media.
“A silent leader on the field, an example to the comrades,” the message read.
“A boy with a kind and respectful soul. We will carry you in our hearts forever.’
Gallani was due to present his thesis in engineering at the University of Parma at the end of May, before starting an internship at Lamborghini.
