A content creator has revealed how to keep your home cool and your energy bills low this summer — and it all has to do with the way your blinds face.
The US-based TikToker passing by @DJLostOne and regularly shares hacks, has shocked people on the internet by sharing the real reason why your blinds can swing both ways.
He noted that your home can get up to eight degrees cooler if you have the blinds up.
In a viral video, which has been viewed more than 2.3 million times to date, DJ told people how keeping the blinds up keeps your room cooler.

‘Do you have to pull up your roller blinds in the summer?
‘Have you ever noticed those aluminum blinds in your house that go up or down? There’s a real reason for that,” he said at the beginning of the video.
He then went on to explain why turning it over is beneficial to both you and your electricity bill.
“In the summer, you have to move it up… that’s so it can direct the warm light from the sun upwards, making a room up to eight degrees cooler,” he explained.
The content creator even tested the method and revealed that his room was eight degrees cooler in the room where he had the blinds up.
He noted that turning his blinds allowed him to “drop his electricity bill.” DJ said his bill went from $16 a day to $10.74 a day.

Experts have confirmed this to be true because it helps direct airflow to the ceiling.
