International rugby star Keven Appo is charged with rape and sexual assault – as he is dropped by Bradford Bulls following police investigation

An international rugby league player has had his contract terminated after he was accused of multiple sex crimes, including rape.

Bradford Bulls player Keven Appo, 25, has been charged with rape, assault on a woman and two counts of assault.

Appo, from Halifax, West Yorkshire, made his international debut for Papua New Guinea at the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.

He also played for Bradford Bulls in 2023 and 2024, but a club spokesperson confirmed today that they have terminated Appo’s contract.

They said: ‘Following today’s statement from West Yorkshire Police, the Bradford Bulls have terminated Keven Appo’s player contract.

‘Given the circumstances the club is obliged to make no further comment at this stage.

‘The search for a suitable, high-quality replacement is ongoing.’

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said the charges relate to an investigation by the Calderdale District Adult Protection Team, following a report in April 2024.

Appo has been released on bail and will appear at Bradford Magistrates Court on Monday, January 6.
