Although Lionel Messi is not a former Barcelona teammate, he still has his eyes on him and his phone on him to try to recruit players for his Inter Miami team.

The latest could be former Manchester United centre-back Marcos Rojo, an old comrade of Messi's with the Argentina national team.

According to Hernan Castillo of Continental 590 radio in Argentina, both Messi and Inter Miami manager Tata Martino have contacted Rojo to convince him to join MLS.

Rojo currently plays for Argentinian giants Boca Juniors, but at the age of 33, he could still make a big step in his career.

Castillo reports that in addition to the MLS club, Brazilian club Palmeiras is also interested in Rojo's services.

Rojo and Messi have played together many times, including here at the 2018 World Cup

Rojo played with Messi at two World Cups, including in 2014, when he played all 120 minutes of the World Cup final against Germany.

He has scored three times in 61 appearances for his country, with all three goals coming in major tournaments.

The first was a match-winner against Nigeria in the final match of the 2014 World Cup group stage, with La Albiceleste winning the group.

The following year, he scored a second time in the semi-finals of the Copa America, bagging the first of six goals for his home country and advancing them to the final of that tournament.

His last goal came in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup, another match-winner against Nigeria in which they narrowly advanced to the knockout stages.
