Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham hails his team’s ‘great win on the road’ over New York Red Bulls after Lionel Messi scored on his MLS debut: ‘What dreams are made of’

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham took to Instagram to express his delight after the team defeated the New York Red Bulls 2-0 in Lionel Messi’s Major League Soccer debut.

While the former England football star was not in attendance, he still took the time to praise his side as they returned to MLS action following their recent cup success.

Messi did not start the match and came on as a substitute after 60 minutes after Tata Martino decided to rest his star man.

Since joining Miami in July, Messi has been one of the key players to accumulate a huge number of minutes during Miami’s unexpected run at the Leagues Cup and US Open Cup match.

Ahead of the match, Miami manager Tata Martino would not confirm whether Messi was in the starting line-up for the game against NYRB, having previously indicated that the World Cup winner will need a rest ‘at some point’ during the week would have.

Miami’s entry into the Leagues Cup – which even Martino admitted he didn’t see coming – has seen Messi start his career with the team in great form.

Since making his senior debut for Miami, he has scored 11 goals in nine games.

He added that total in the closing minutes of the game against New York after scoring an open-net tap in the 89th minute following a beautiful piece of play between himself and Miami breakthrough Benjamin Cremaschi.

Miami’s next game as they attempt to climb out of the basement of the MLS table will be against Nashville in a rematch of the US Open Cup semifinal played earlier this week. That match went all the way to penalties in a highly contested affair that Miami managed to pull off.

The win against the Red Bulls only took Miami to 21 points, which is still the third lowest in the entire league, and Messi and his teammates still face a challenge to make the playoffs.

Beckham was not present at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday, despite being an almost permanent fixture at Inter Miami games during the Leagues Cup.

The former Manchester United star appeared to be enjoying a family holiday in Croatia instead.

His wife Victoria took to Instagram on Saturday to provide an insight into their family holiday and shared a sweet video with her husband

Victoria also posted a sweet photo of Beckham sharing a hug with their daughter Harper, while the fashion designer also posed with their youngest child

The former footballer had enjoyed a lavish hunting trip with his wife Victoria, 49, and their youngest children Cruz, 18, and Harper, 12.

On Friday, Victoria took to Instagram to document their family getaway and shared a sweet photo of her and Beckham packing on the PDA.

And Beckham and Cruz took some time away from the yacht as they zipped around on a paddleboard and a fliteboard – an electrically powered surfboard.

Beckham showed off his muscular body and tattooed chest as he walked shirtless in black shorts as he practiced his skills on a paddleboard.

Beckham continued to flaunt his buzzcut after returning to his short haircut earlier this month – a look reminiscent of his 2000s Manchester United days.

He also cheered on his son Cruz, who wore red board shorts, as he tried to stay upright on a flip board.

His daughter Harper was also spotted swimming in the sea as they spent some quality time together during the sun-soaked outing.

Victoria and Beckham’s eldest sons, Brooklyn, 24, and Romeo, 20, did not attend the family vacation.
