Mallorca has announced that it wants to put an end to the towel wars by introducing an app that allows people to reserve sunbeds, in order to put an end to the beach battles.
If the plans of Palma de Mallorca City Hall are followed, sunbeds on the municipality’s beaches – Ciutat Jardí, Cala Estància, Can Pere Antoni, Cala Major and Playa de Palma – will only be able to be reserved via an app, BILD reports.

The beaches will also have Wi-Fi and video surveillance, with plans to start in 2025.
Booking is done in the same way as reserving seats on a plane: the app shows which loungers are occupied or available for reservation.
Reservations can then be made online regardless of location, and prices are transparent so everyone is treated equally, the report said.
Until then, however, tourists will continue to fight for a sunbed, as seen in the latest clip posted online.
Under the TikTok video of Hotel Village in Benalmadena, someone joked: ‘Do you want to know what happens next? Do they all sit down and relax?’
Another said: ‘My idea of holiday hell’, while a third added: ‘I’m glad I hate sunbathing.’
