Instagram is DOWN preventing users from using the desktop version of the platform

It is one of the most popular social media platforms in the world, but it seems that Instagram is down this morning.

According to DownDetector, the problems started around 09:16 BST and are affecting users worldwide.

While the reason for the outage remains unclear, 44 per cent of those reporting issues in the UK said they struggled with the app, 43 per cent with the website and 13 per cent with the feed.

MailOnline tried to access profiles on the desktop version of the platform and received an error message: ‘Something went wrong. There is a problem and the page cannot be loaded.’

DownDetector collects reports of outages from multiple sources, including social media and mobile apps.

Just after 9am BST on Friday, it had more than 200 reports from affected users, following an earlier spike shortly after 6am.

The Instagram communication account on Twitter, which usually confirms any outages, has yet to comment on the issue.

MailOnline has reached out to Meta, Mark Zuckerberg’s company that owns Instagram, for more information.

Those affected took to Twitter to share their frustration, with one saying that Stories, video and music were not loading.
