Instagram and Facebook are experiencing problems worldwide as users report problems with the social media apps.

Downdetector, a site that monitors online outages, shows that the problems started around 7 a.m. ET and affected Americans in New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas and other major cities.

The outage has also been reported in Britain, Australia and parts of Europe and Asia.

Users have cited issues with Facebook Messenger.

Meta’s service status page shows ‘some disruptions’ with its ‘Posting Tool’.

For Instagram, 62 percent of reported issues mentioned the app, followed by server connection at 27 percent and sharing at 11 percent.

Downdetector shows that 45 percent of Facebook users say the website is the worst affected, followed by the app (39 percent) and 16 percent of reports mention the server connection.

Users flocked to X on Tuesday morning to share their frustrations about the outage and to see if others were experiencing similar issues.

“Don’t worry, it’s not you, Instagram DMs are really down,” an X user shared.

Others wondered if the social media platforms were offline or if they had been banned from the platforms.

Some even wondered if their accounts had been hacked.

Users face errors when trying to share direct messages on Instagram and Messenger.

More than 375 million people use Instagram Direct Messages every month, but it is unknown how many people experience problems during the outage.

But Downdetector shows that there are thousands of reports worldwide.

Meta did not acknowledge the malfunction.
