Insomniac Games responds to ‘distressing’ cyberattack, ‘like Logan… Insomniac is resilient’

Insomniac Games has released an update in response to the recent cyber attack that hit the studio.

In a statement about the official Insomniac Games Twitter accountthe developer thanked fans for the “outpouring of condolences and continued support.”

“We are both saddened and angry about the recent criminal cyberattack on our studio and the emotional toll it has taken on our development team. We have turned inward to support each other over the past few days.”

The statement comes in response to a cyber attack on December 12 that stole confidential data from Insomniac, including personal information and details surrounding the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine.

“We are aware that the stolen data contains personal information of our employees, former employees and independent contractors,” the post continues. “It also includes early development details about Marvel's Wolverine for PlayStation 5 (…) this experience has been extremely painful for us.”

Marvel's Wolverine is an action game currently in development at Insomniac that follows the story of Logan, a gruff superhero from the X-Men canon.

Talking about the impact WolverineOn Insomniac's development, Insomniac added: “We want everyone to enjoy the games we develop as intended and as our players deserve. But like Logan… Insomniac is resilient. Marvel's Wolverine will continue as planned.”

To speak more directly to fans, Insomniac added that “while we appreciate everyone's enthusiasm, we will be sharing official information about Marvel's Wolverine when the time is right.”

Insomniac Games has a rich history when it comes to video game development. The veteran studio is responsible for the beloved platform game series at the turn of the millennium Spyro the Dragon like Ratchet & Clank, sunset overdrive, and the very popular Marvel's Spider-Man series.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which was released in October, was warmly received by critics and fans. Ny Breaking Gaming's own editor-in-chief, Jake Tucker, gave the game four out of five stars, praising its delivery of a “satisfying Spidey saga” that “puts fun above all else.”
