Inside Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen’s life on the farm

A lot has changed for Amanda Owen as 2023 begins.

The Yorkshire shepherdess, 48, confirmed she had split from her husband of 21 years, Clive, 68, last summer, but with nine children and a 2,000-acre working farm between them, the estranged couple still have many ties.

Along with the end of their marriage, the couple’s hit show Our Yorkshire Farm was cancelled, but Amanda’s life still goes on on the farm.

amanda and clive run Ravenseat in the Yorkshire Dales, a remote working farm where they have been tenants for over 20 years.

The former couple are parents to Raven, 21, Reuben, 19, Miles, 16, Edith, 14, Violet, 12, Sidney, 11, Annas, nine, Clemmy, seven, and Nancy, six.

Before their split was confirmed last summer, the neighbors revealed to MailOnline that Amanda had moved from the cottage to their rental property down the road in Swaledale, while Clive had stayed at the cottage.

However, Amanda has since moved back into the country house, revealing in an interview this month with the sunday time that she and Clive have “two farms that are basically next door to each other, so it’s close enough to be useful, but far enough away that we have space.”

“Whatever our personal situation, there’s a farm to run and nine children to care for, so we’re just working together, making it happen.”

Amanda keeps busy with the thousand sheep, forty cows, six dogs and four horses that reside with her in Ravenseat, not to mention her nine children, seven of whom still live at home.

The shepherdess has said that her day’it starts in the morning light every morning,’ where she cares for the animals while her children get ready for the hour-long bus ride to school.

Next is a day of visiting auctions, vendors, sheep collecting, and posting when she can on the farm’s temperamental WIFI for her 500,000 Instagram followers.

Amanda, a well-known advocate for hands-off parenting, says most of her independent children have fun on their own, but she makes sure they have a family dinner at 6:00 p.m.

Once the kids are in bed and the day’s work is done, Amanda hops on the treadmill for her daily exercise, admitting that she occasionally enjoys her drink of choice: absinthe.

Farm life has been a dream of Amanda’s since she was a little girl growing up in suburban Huddersfield.

She knew she wouldn’t be able to qualify to be a veterinarian, so she spent her spare time at the local library researching different ways of working with animals, which is where she discovered herding.

After leaving school, she worked odd jobs on local farms before becoming a herder in her twenties.

While still training at the age of 21, she met Clive, who came to help the divorced father of two in Ravenseat in 1995.

She moved on, nine children followed, and then came TV fame.

The couple appeared as regulars in Adrian Edmondson’s 2011 ITV documentary series The Dales along with Reverend Ann Chapman, the vicarage of four small churches, and various other people living in rural Yorkshire.

And the public quickly fell in love with the couple and their unusual love story, dubbing them the ‘Kardashians of the Countryside.’

They began making more media appearances and giving media interviews about their family, before Amanda released her first book The Yorkshire Shepherdess.

The family’s popularity led to their own observational documentary series on Channel 5 called Our Yorkshire Farm, which began in 2018.

It quickly became a hit and was one of the most popular shows on the channel with more than three million viewers watching each episode.

However, in June, after months of rumors about the status of their marriage, Amanda and Clive released a joint statement saying they had made “the difficult decision to separate”.

Speaking to the Radio Times recently, Amanda gave her own take on the split: “Look, there are two simple facts: if he thought I was brilliant and I thought he was brilliant, then we wouldn’t have broken up.” ‘ she pointed out.

It’s a fact, isn’t it? But, you know what, that’s not unique, it’s how things are, the pressures, everything else.

“But we have nine children, with associated friends, girlfriends, and we just have to keep going.”

When asked during an appearance in Lorraine if life had gone on as normal in terms of family and farm, he replied:

‘It does. Thats the reality. It’s really difficult and it’s a really difficult aspect to convey.

‘But when you do reality, it has to be just that. That means it covers the ups and downs and that can be at any level.

‘Because at the end of the day our priority remains, of course, to keep everything going.

Late last year, Clive’s new show Beyond The Yorkshire Farm: Reuben and Clive premiered and saw him launch a digging business with his son.

Meanwhile, Amanda also has exciting prospects on the horizon, as royal boss Daniel Pearl has said.
