Petty died on October 2, 2017 at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, California from an accidental drug overdose.
Months later, his wife and daughter released the results of Petty’s autopsy through a statement on their website.
Dana and Adria Petty said they obtained results from the coroner’s office that revealed the overdose was due to a variety of medications.
“We knew before the report was shared with us that he was prescribed various pain relievers for a multitude of problems, including fentanyl patches, and we are certain that, as the coroner found, it was an unfortunate accident,” his family wrote in that moment.
