Inside the Mayrlife clinic: Luxury Austrian spa where Sarah Ferguson is recuperating after devastating skin cancer diagnosis was founded by revered gut health physician and counts Naomi Campbell, Karlie Kloss and Rebel Wilson among its patients

Sarah Ferguson is recovering from her devastating skin cancer diagnosis in a luxury Austrian health clinic that has become a haven for the rich and famous.

The Duchess of York has spent the past few weeks at the Mayrlife clinic, an Austrian resort whose clientele includes Suki Waterhouse, Naomi Campbell, Karlie Kloss and Rebel Wilson.

The clinic, a spa on the shores of Lake Altaussee, is based on the teachings of Dr. Franz Mayr, an Austrian physician who claimed that the route to physical wellness comes from the intestines.

Formerly known as Vivamayr, the clinic imposes a strict regimen on guests, including educating people on how to change their eating habits and cleanse their digestive systems.

This includes unusual methods such as getting guests, who can pay up to £6,700 for a two-week stay, to chew the food up to 100 times to promote good digestion.

Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, who was diagnosed with skin cancer just months after treatment for breast cancer, has revealed she is recovering at the star-studded resort.

A birthmark was removed from her body. Tests have shown that it is malignant melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer.

It comes after the 64-year-old underwent breast surgery for cancer last year, with insiders saying it has ‘not been an easy time’ for her.

In an effort to recover from her ordeal, the Duchess has chosen to enroll in the Mayrlife clinic, where Dr. Mayr’s teachings are put into practice.

According to Women’s Health, the programs and plans are based on “the traditional medicine of Dr. FX Mayr, combined with excellent medical expertise, advanced and a comprehensive range of therapies.’

The resort is located right on the shores of Lake Altaussee, surrounded by breathtaking mountain ranges, with rooms from £390 per night, excluding treatments.

Instead, guests can expect to spend a further £2,000 per week to be pampered with a bespoke program or for more specialist programs such as the Post-Covid program which costs £6,700 for a stay of two to soften.

Detoxification is the core element of any program, with an emphasis on rest, strict cleansing of the digestive system, and retraining eating habits, such as learning to slow down and chew food up to 100 times to promote good digestion.

The premise behind the clinic is a colon cleansing-based health regimen that combines medical detox, personalized diets and holistic healing treatments to achieve a total health transformation in just seven days.

Each guest visits their doctor every day for a check-up, with their diet and medication adjusted depending on progress and symptoms.

There have been a slew of celebrities who go to the clinic to give them peace of mind. Last summer, Suki Waterhouse posted on Instagram a photo of herself paddle boarding on Lake Altaussee.

The model, 31, documented her relaxing getaway: ‘Every year I try to go with my best friend @poppyjamie to @mayrlife_official, the house with the most stunning nature I have ever seen, the most attentive people and the nurturing care you get can hope for. Thank you so much for having us back @mayrlife_official.”

Supermodels Karlie Kloss and Naomi Campbell are also known to be regulars.

As well as actress Rebel Wilson who wrote on social media in 2022: ‘I work according to the Mayr method to reset my system for the rest of the working year.’

The Pitch Perfect star, 44, paid around £4,000 a week for her health treatments, including anti-inflammatory meals and cryotherapy treatments.

The clinic, which is led by medical director Dr. Sepp Fegerl, is known for his strict but incredibly effective ‘healing’ that cleanses the body of toxins and promises to leave you toned, vibrant and full of energy within days.

Rebel’s 35kg weight loss was previously attributed to strategies developed by Austrian physician Dr. Franz Xaver Mayr.

However, she distanced herself from the Mayr method in 2022, when she told her 11 million Instagram followers: “This was never my diet.”
