A Queensland boutique hotel has been named 12th in the World’s 50 Best Hotels for 2023 – and it’s not hard to see why.
Brisbane’s Calile Hotel, a favorite among socialites and celebrities, opened in October 2018 and has now won Oceania’s Best Hotel thanks to its coastal ambiance and modern subtropical design.
The $100 million Fortitude Valley Hotel was born out of the Malouf family’s decision to transform Brisbane’s premier shopping precinct, James Street, into a “lifestyle resort” destination.
The result was the “best” urban resort hotel that attracts international, local and domestic travelers alike, as well as the likes of Liam Hemsworth, Julia Roberts and George Clooney.
Starting at around $379 per night, this beautiful retreat offers nine rooms ranging from the modest Essential hideaway to poolside and upscale suite options.

Guests have access to serene deck cabanas beside the huge, sparkling pool, as well as the famous Kailo Medispa, a gym with all the essentials and personal trainers and a library nestled in a private enclave.
There are also six indoor and nearby dining options, with the Lobby Bar perfect for lunch and dinner daily, while Ada Lane’s two hot spots – Same Same and Bianca – are top choices for larger meals.
There are few details left out at Calile, which prides itself on being a “place where stories can stop or pivot.”
“Normally, we don’t put much stock in awards, nor do we seek them – we prefer to devote our energy to providing honest, generous and thoughtful hospitality,” a Calile spokesperson said.

The independent list is created using votes from the World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy, which includes 580 “well-traveled international experts” within the hospitality and travel industry, with a 50-50 gender balance. .

“After wanting to stay here for ages, this definitely lived up to my expectations and hype! The front desk staff were fantastic – they went out of their way for me and were friendly! All the staff were super helpful, the rooms and the hotel as a whole are so beautiful and in such a great location,” added another.
EPassalacqua, a luxury boutique hotel on the shores of Lake Como in Italy, has won the title of best hotel in the world, with the imposing Rosewood Hong Kong, located in the Victoria Dockside arts and design district with a view impregnable on the port, taking second place.
Twenty-one of the winning properties were in Europe, with London “cementing its reputation as a global travel hub”, according to the awards, as it has four hotels on the list: Claridge’s (No. 16), The Connaught (No. 16). 22), NoMad London (No. 46) and The Savoy (No. 47).
