Inside Talulah Riley’s turbulent love life: From divorcing Elon Musk TWICE to marrying Love Actually star Thomas Brodie-Sangster

She married Love Actually star Thomas Brodie-Sangster in a secret ceremony on Friday.

But Talulah Riley’s love life was turbulent.

It was revealed on Sunday that Talulah, 38, and Thomas, 34, got married in a romantic ceremony after The Sun obtained photos of the couple’s big day.

However, the couple’s romance came as a shock when her relationship with artist Matthew Rice, who was 23 years her senior, came to an abrupt end.

And before that, she had a turbulent relationship with billionaire Elon Musk – who she divorced twice and revealed was her first real boyfriend.

Talulah married Elon Musk in 2010 after meeting in 2008, shortly after his divorce from wife Justine Long.

Talulah and Elon got engaged just ten days after first meeting, and she joined him and his young children in his nearly empty 20,000-square-foot mansion in Los Angeles.

They divorced two years later, before remarrying in 2013. The billionaire filed for divorce in 2014, but subsequently withdrew the filing. Two years later, Talulah filed for divorce, which was finalized later that year.

The pair met at London nightclub Whiskey Mist and Musk wooed her by talking rockets.

Talulah said of their first meeting in the new BBC documentary: ‘My first impression was that he was very sweet, he seemed quite shy.

‘He said ‘can I put my hand on your knee’ and I said ‘Okay, go ahead’, I thought it was really sweet that he asked.’

She continued, “He said I don’t normally do this but I would love to see you tomorrow, can we meet for breakfast. So we had breakfast.

“And at the end of breakfast he said if you wanted to come and have lunch with me, so we went to lunch. And then he said if you wanted to come over for dinner.

Elon said at the time: “We took a break for several months to see if absence makes the heart grow fonder, and unfortunately it didn’t.”

The ill-fated love story between Talulah and Elon almost never happened when she first told her father Doug Milburn, formerly head of the National Crime Squad, and later a TV police procedural writer, about who he was.

She recalled, “I said, ‘Dad, I met a wonderful man who makes rockets.’ [He asked] “What is his name?” He Googled Elon + rocket + electric car and angrily exclaimed that Elon was married with five children.”

He replied, “You were picked up by a playboy. Text the guy that you’re not going to have dinner with him and he’s absurd.’

Talulah continued: “I was sad because my judgment of people is usually quite harsh,” before revealing that she had consulted a friend who told her that he had already separated from his ex-wife Justine, after filing for divorce six weeks earlier had requested.

Following her divorce from Elon, the actress had been quietly seeing Matthew Rice – who was 23 years her senior – in the wake of his 2018 divorce from ceramic designer Emma Bridgewater, to whom he was married for 30 years.

A source said at the time: ‘Talulah and Matthew were in a relationship for a long time, but it seems the romance fell by the wayside to make room for Thomas…

“Talulah was in a relationship with Matthew until the spring, and he’s still a little shocked and sad that it all ended between them.”

In photos obtained by The sunThe actress, 38, looked sensational in a stunning white dress as she tied the knot with fellow actor Thomas, 34.

The St Trinian actress was linked to the Game of Thrones and Maze Runner star at St George’s Church in Anstey, Hertfordshire.

Thomas, who played lovesick kid Sam in 2003 rom-com Love Actually opposite on-screen dad Liam Neeson, looked dapper as ever in a royal blue tuxedo.

He seemed to channel his inner Bridgerton for the occasion as he stepped out in gray pinstripe trousers and a floral waist jacket.

The couple, who met in March 2021 on the set of the Disney+ Sex Pistols drama Pistol, were spotted riding off into the sunset while lovingly waving goodbye to their guests in a carriage.

To announce their engagement in 2023, Talulah chose Twitter as her confirmation method.

With a selfie alongside the words: “Very happy to share that Thomas Brodie Sangster and I are engaged after two years of dating!”, Thomas took to Instagram.

Alongside a photo of the duo in a gondola, Thomas wrote: “Happy to announce that Talulah and I are engaged. Love is all around

Thomas and Talulah made their romance public at the BAFTAs last March. Their romance began when the Maze Runner actor starred alongside Talulah in Danny Boyle’s Sex Pistols drama Pistol.

Their relationship went unnoticed until The Mail On Sunday learned that Talulah’s previous romance with Matthew had come to an abrupt end.

According to a source, Thomas and Talulah ‘bought a monumental country house together in the countryside’.

Meanwhile, while Talulah’s Elon romance was highly publicized, Thomas dated My Parents Are Aliens actress Isabella Melling for a few years and dated musician Gzi Wisdom for two years before finding love with Talulah.

In addition to Love Actually, Thomas has also achieved film success in Nanny McPhee, Nowhere Boy – in which he played the young Paul McCartney – and Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Elsewhere, Thomas won a new legion of fans thanks to his recurring role as Jojen Reed in the hugely popular HBO drama Game Of Thrones as well as The Queen’s Gambit.
