Inside Stuart Broad’s luxury pub after massive £1million refurbishment after being destroyed by fire as England Ashes hero retires from cricket

Stuart Broad has retired from all forms of cricket following the conclusion of the last Ashes Test, with the former bowler about to focus on his upscale pub.

Located in Upper Broughton, Nottinghamshire, The Tap and Run is run by the former cricketer. Last year the pub was gutted following a fire last June which started in a tumble dryer and destroyed the roof and upstairs.

Ben Stokes’ side dismissed Australia for 334 to win the Fifth Test by 49 runs at The Oval in the final Test, with Broad at the heart of the action. His career came to a fairytale end as he took the last two wickets, helping England secure a 2–2 draw against their rivals.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the Fifth Test, Broad said: “Woakesy and Moeen set the tone incredibly and when we got a few wickets we really started to believe.” The crowd was so loud and we really jumped on that energy.

“It was very special to take a few wickets to end the Test match and contribute to the team.

“When you make the decision (to retire) you wonder what your last ball will be and that it’s a wicket to win an Ashes Test match is pretty cool.”

Now that the former bowler has officially retired, attention will likely turn to his pub – which he co-owns with friend and former England bowler Harry Gurney.

The Tap and Run was named Pub of the Year at the 2021 Leicestershire Tourism and Hospitality Awards and named as one of the 30 best places in Britain to visit for a Sunday lunch, according to The Times.

The popular country pub reopened this year after a £1 million refurbishment. According to Nottinghamshire livethe layout is similar to before, but with a few minor changes.

The new layout offers more space for casual eating and drinking, and there is additional seating – making for better dining areas throughout the pub.

Nottinghamshire Live also reported that the look was inspired by the surrounding countryside and features greens and earthy colours.

The pub has created a new and improved kitchen and extended the establishment’s garden.

After reopening its doors on June 26, Broad revealed that he may want to expand and add more pubs in the area in the future.

Speak against Business lifeBroad said: ‘The business plan is to try and get five in the next five years, which might sound a bit like running before we can walk. But we need to make sure that the Tap and Run continues in an upward curve.

“It may not be the right time, but we are always on our guard. The most important thing for us as we expand is that we never lose quality.

“I will certainly take another step forward in the pub business when my cricket is finally finished, but I think rather than go 100 per cent on one thing I would like to have other things in my life that keep me interested – those hold me progress as a person.’
