Taylor and Prince William’s connection dates back to 2013, when the pair performed with Bon Jovi (pictured) on stage at a charity event in London

The unlikely trio sang a rendition of the Bon Jovi hit Livin’ On A Prayer, with William even playing air guitar before giving his bandmates a high five.

According to event organizers, the performance at the Winter Whites Gala evening at Kensington Palace was completely improvised.

Taylor gave a speech that evening in which she mentioned the then Duke of Cambridge.

She said: ‘I’m Taylor, it’s very nice to meet you, especially under these circumstances. It’s the first time I’ve played at Kensington Palace or any other palace.

“I must thank you, Prince William, for having me. It is awesome.

‘To draw particular attention to this age group, teenagers and young adults.’

Later, describing her meeting with Prince William, she laughed: “He was very funny. I was really happy that he was funny.”

Taylor described the impromptu celebration during an interview with The Mail on Sunday shortly after the event: “I could hear his voice and it’s quite good. A nice tone. I would definitely say he has star quality and if he ever wants me to sing with him again, I’ll be there.”

Speaking about the 2021 event, the Prince said he obeyed ‘like a puppy’ as the glamorous pop star ordered him on stage for the impromptu performance with Jon Bon Jovi.

Recalling a fundraising gala in November 2013 for the homeless charity Centrepoint, a cause first championed by his late mother, Princess Diana, the royal family said: ‘I can’t believe I’m actually telling you this story… I show up and Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift are at the event, which almost threw me off my feet.

‘And then I went in, met everyone, a lot of handshaking during those evenings, a lot of chatting. I try to be charming and interactive.

‘Sometimes you’re not having a good day and it’s a little harder to get by.

“When I sat down to watch Jon Bon Jovi do his performance, I thought, ‘That’s it. My job is done. I’m going to eat in a minute, and maybe I can talk to some people, and you know, I’m a little off duty right now.”

But things didn’t go according to that plan.

“I had no idea what would happen next,” he adds. ‘I’m sitting next to Taylor Swift. She’s standing to my left – and after Jon sings his first song, there’s a pause and she turns to me.

‘She puts her hand on my arm, looks me in the eye and says, ‘Come on, William. Let’s start singing.’

‘To this day I still don’t know what happened to me. Honestly, even now I cringe at what happened next, and I don’t understand why I gave in.

“But honestly, when Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm and says, ‘Come with me…’ I stood up like a puppy and said, ‘Yeah, okay, that seems like a great idea . Follow you.”

‘I walked onto the stage in a trance and about halfway through Jon Bon Jovi’s Livin’ On A Prayer song I woke up.
