Inside out 2 only hit theaters last week on June 14, and it looks like the story is already moving forward, according to Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter, who shared Entertainment weekly where a spin-off series is headed Disney Plus. The new series will be released directly to streaming in early 2025.
In the first Inside out In the film we focused on Riley and the five main emotions in her mind: joy, sadness, fear, anger and disgust. Together they work to manage and archive Riley’s memories and are responsible for her daily emotions. Joy tries to be the leader and always wants to be happy, but of course it’s not that simple.
Riley returned for Inside out 2 but in the sequel she is joined by even more emotions in the form of fear, boredom, envy, shame and nostalgia, so it gets quite busy there with so many feelings to deal with.
Now Pixar wants to expand the offering Inside out universe continues by taking an even deeper dive into the characters we know and love. We even have a hint at a plot, and it looks like the series will tackle dreams, with Docter saying it will explore “their impact on waking life.”
What can we expect from the Inside Out TV series?
So far we know that the Inside out series will arrive in spring 2025 (which will be fall for Southern Hemisphere residents), although an exact release schedule hasn’t been confirmed. We also don’t know what the title is yet.
During the interview with Entertainment weekly, Docter confirmed that production had wrapped, saying, “We’re done. It will be released next spring. Remember in the first movie we go to Dream Production to see how Riley’s dreams are made? It partly explains why they are so weird.”
“We said in the beginning, if there’s nothing that we all think has a deeper resonance, we won’t do it. But when Kelsey came back with Anxiety as a character and storyline, we all said, ‘That was a big part of my middle life. I think there’s something there.’ We could personalize it so that people can talk about that vague feeling of nerves and tension,” he added.
We expect to get more information about the spin-off series in the coming months. Until then, check out our selection of the best Disney Plus movies to stream now, or our take on every Pixar movie ranked from worst to best?
