Inside Out 2 trailer will make you feel like a teenager again with its new emotion teases
The first teaser trailer for Inside out 2 has been released – and, to quote Ron Burgundy Anchormanit has trapped us in a glass case of emotions.
Pixar’s next film, a direct sequel to 2015’s Inside outwill be one of the new movies of 2024. The film hits theaters on June 14, so it’s time we get a first look at the upcoming animated film.
Well, Pixar and parent company Disney have finally revealed the first images of Inside out 2. And now that the film will reunite viewers with Riley, the human protagonist from the first film, albeit now as a teenager, Pixar’s latest venture will introduce a whole new set of emotions to the quintet: joy, sadness, fear, anger and disgust. – already lives in her head.
Inside out 2‘s first trailer only introduces us to one of those new emotions in the form of the orange-hued Fear, who is voiced by Stranger thingsMaya Hawke. According to a Disney press release, director Kelsey Mann (The good dinosaur, Monsters at work) said of Anxiety’s role in the film: “Anxiety may be new to the crew, but she’s not really the type to take a back seat. That makes a lot of sense when you think about it in terms of what’s going on in our heads.”
However, there is a wink and you will miss it because of the other feelings we encounter in the film at the end of the teaser. Among that contingent are envy, shame, and boredom (boredom, essentially), and you can also catch a glimpse of what some of these other emotions look like in the film’s first poster below.

For anyone interested, here’s a summary of the story: “Inside out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley, just as the headquarters is suddenly demolished to make way for something completely unexpected: new emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, which by all accounts have been successful for a long time, don’t quite know how to feel when fear arises. And it looks like she’s not the only one.”
Other than that brief overview, we don’t know much about it Inside out 2‘s plot not yet. However, we know that Riley (and her emotions) will have to navigate her new school in San Francisco, as well as the onset of puberty, hence the arrival of the aforementioned new emotions/hormones/whatever you want to call them.
It is unclear whether Inside out 2 picks up immediately after its predecessor, ending a year later with an epilogue-style final scene Inside OuIt was the main plot and saw 12-year-old Riley already acclimating to her new environment. We suspect Inside out 2 however, will be a direct continuation of what came before, considering how old Riley is at the end of the first film and the beginning of this one.
Amy Poehler, Lewis Black, and Phyllis Smith return to voice Joy, Anger, and Sadness, as well as Kaitlyn Dias, who voiced Riley. However, Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling, who played Fear and Disgust, have been replaced by Tony Hale (Toy story 4) and Liza Lapira (Don’t trust the B*** in apartment 23) for the sequel.
Per DeadlineMeg LaFauve, who co-wrote the original film, is back on script duties for the 2024 sequel. As mentioned, Pete Docter, who directed Inside out(see where it landed in our list of the best Pixar films) has been replaced in the movie chair by Mann, who makes his feature directorial debut in a Pixar film.
