Inside Mary Fowler’s very Aussie Christmas trip as she spends the big day apart from footy star boyfriend Nathan Cleary

Mary Fowler has given fans a glimpse into her Christmas trip to Australia's tropical north to visit family as she spends the biggest holiday of the year almost 1,500 miles away from love interest Nathan Cleary.

On December 24, the Matildas star showed her Instagram followers a series of photos and videos she took during her trip to see her loved ones in Cairns, Queensland over the festive break.

Dressed casually in a brown short skirt and black midriff-length top, Fowler took photos and videos as she took in the region's stunning scenery on one of the city's biggest tourist attractions, the Cairns Skyrail.

Billed as the best way to enjoy views of 'the world's oldest tropical rainforest', the cable car journey takes visitors above the jungle canopy and over Barron Gorge, which is now even more impressive than usual.

As Fowler's photos and videos show, the Barron River and its famous waterfall are heaving with incredible amounts of runoff from the ex-tropical Cycllone Jasper, which made landfall on December 13.

The 20-year-old looked happy and relaxed as she took in the sights and posed for a selfie with a fellow passenger, captioning the post: 'Fun day to Kuranda with @skyrailcairns.'

Fowler was born in Cairns, attended school there and played football for local teams Saints FC and Leichhardt FC, where she competed against boys.

Her family in the city stayed safe during the floods that hit the region due to the wild weather brought by Cyclone Jasper.

The trip north to celebrate Christmas with her family comes after Fowler had a whirlwind few days in Sydney after flying in from Britain, where she plays for football powerhouse Manchester City.

She had a romantic reunion with Cleary at Sydney airport on December 19, with the footy star greeting her with a kiss before helping her with her bags.

Fowler then talked about her dream of starting a family of her own when she proved to be a big hit with the youngsters at Rise & Shine Kindergarten in the south of the city, after which she and Cleary enjoyed a lunch date at Penrith in the far west of Sydney.

The loved-up couple then looked more in love than ever as they gave each other tips on how to play their respective footy codes during an hour-long training session at an oval near Cleary's home in Penrith.

Both stars looked to the moon to be together and got down to business lovingly as Fowler tested her NRL passing skills and Cleary showed surprising skills with a football.

The couple was recently named Nath-ilda, but the name didn't go down well with fans, with many claiming it was unacceptable because it didn't include Mary Fowler's name.

β€œThis is absolutely the worst possible nickname for couples that they could have come up with. Simply unacceptable IMO,” one Panthers fan wrote on X.

'I think Nathan & Mary should be called Clear Fowl. It also has to do with football,” replied another.

'Omg also makes her work her identity??? I hate it,” said a third.

Cleary and Fowler first attracted attention as a potential couple after being spotted together twice following the Women's World Cup.

Initial sightings included a leisurely stroll along the Nepean River in Penrith, where the 25-year-old NRL sensation and the Matildas forward spent quality time together.

They were also observed sharing ice cream after a promotional event organized by Adidas, a brand that both athletes endorse.

The couple publicly debuted their romance in Perth in October, confirming suspicions from previous sightings.

Ny Breaking Australia exclusively revealed Cleary's cross-country sprint to see Fowler and the Matildas play the Philippines, providing visual confirmation of the pair's closeness.

Cleary, recovering from a knee injury, returned to pre-season training with the Penrith Panthers earlier this month.

In a recent public statement, he acknowledged the renewed focus on his private life, expressing a need to move forward without being too preoccupied with it.

'I haven't let that many people look into my personal life yet. But it just depends on what's involved. It's something I have no control over,” he said.

“I just have to move on and not read too much into it.”
