The Whole Foods co-founder has launched a health and wellness club that charges a whopping $50,000 a year to join, a move he admits only health-obsessed Los Angelesites would be interested in.

John Mackey, 70, opened Love.Life, a combination doctor’s office, gym and wellness center where society’s wealthiest people can “feed, heal and thrive,” as the motto above the door reads.

The cheapest memberships – High Performance, Heal or Longevity – cost $750 per month, or $9,000 per year, while the “Concierge” level costs a whopping $50,000.

Partial memberships, such as a $300 fitness and recovery option and a $500 medical membership, are also available.

Those who just want to take a quick look inside can purchase a day pass for the measly sum of $100.

For $9,000 a year, members are entitled to five visits to a Love.Life GP, health coaching, medical tests, and fitness and recovery sessions. They also have access to practitioners working in 20 disciplines, including yoga, nutrition and Chinese medicine.

The Concierge level offers unlimited doctor appointments and access to more extensive medical testing.

Upon registration, visitors are subjected to a series of tests so that specialists can get a complete picture of their health and provide a more personalized experience.

According to The Times, customers also have their blood drawn for lab testing for more than 120 biomarkers, as well as having their musculoskeletal system measured or their body composition and bone mineral density scanned.

Other tests are also available that address the microbiome, hormones, the heart and food intolerances.

“If this idea doesn’t work in L.A., it doesn’t work, period,” Mackey said. “People here are more concerned with their health, they’re more concerned with looking good, feeling good, they’re more concerned with living a long life.”

Everything is incorporated into a personalized fitness, nutrition and lifestyle plan that is stored in an app that also tracks members’ progress.

“We try to help people become the healthiest, best versions of themselves, physically, emotionally and spiritually,” Mackey said.

“When do most people go to a doctor? When they get sick. Our idea is: we want you to go to a doctor 1723244141 so that you never have to go to the doctor again for chronic diseases that are fatal.’

While the club does not accept insurance, members may be able to receive reimbursement for some tests through their insurance.

For Mackey, however, this is merely a “continuation of my own higher life purpose.”

Mackey has been toying with the idea for 40 years, about as long as Whole Foods has been around.

He called the club a “continuation of my own higher purpose in life.”

Mackey and his co-founders sold the grocery chain to Amazon for $13.7 billion in 2017, and the vegan left the company in 2022.

He had already been working for a year to get the club up and running, with the aim of ‘changing the way people think about health and wellbeing.’

Mackey and co-founders Walter Robb and Betsy Foster envisioned it as a state-of-the-art gym, luxury spa and holistic health center.

He hopes to expand his operations to other cities and eventually internationally.
