Inside Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton’s luxurious 1906 superyacht, which helped them escape ‘prying eyes’ (and YOU can charter it for a trip… if you have a spare £16,000)
Enjoy the glamor of old Hollywood on your next sailing vacation by cruising on the historic boat that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
The luxury superyacht, named Kalizma, first lowered her sails in 1906.
The 150-foot ship served under the Royal Navy in both world wars before being introduced to the celebrity world, hosting Taylor and Burton’s A-list friends and members of the royal family.
Now in the final chapter of the ship’s colorful life, she is available for charter through a yacht charter company SamBoot.
Prices start at €19,300 (£16,400/$20,800) to charter Kalizma from her base in Valletta, Malta, with a skipper in tow.

The ship, built by Scottish yacht builders Ramage and Ferguson, was originally used as a private yacht for a businessman.
In the First World War, the yacht – then called HMS Minona – served in the Auxiliary Patrol Fleet of the British Royal Navy. Nearly twenty years later, she was used as a base ship for the Deep Sea Rescue Service at Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, Scotland during World War II.
Taylor and Richard — a couple who married and divorced twice — chartered the boat in 1967 for a trip to the Western Mediterranean, according to the yacht’s brochure.
The Hollywood actors, who co-starred in the 1963 film Cleopatra and the 1966 film Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, “fell in love” with the boat during the trip. They bought it and renamed it Kalizma after their daughters Kate, Liza and Maria.

Prince Rainier III and American playwright Tennessee Williams were among the VIP guests Taylor and Burton received on the ship
The yacht’s brochure states that the boat was “a sanctuary away from the prying eyes of the media and the world.”
Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco, and American playwright Tennessee Williams were among the VIP guests the couple received on the ship.
This probably contributed to her reputation as “one of the largest superyachts in Hollywood history,” the boat’s brochure reads.

Kalizma was redecorated in 2020. A statement said: “She has been restored in a way that ensures her soul remains unaltered and her heritage resurfaces.”
Refurbished in 2020, Kalizma features luxuriously appointed rooms across four decks and several portraits of former famous owners as a reminder of its glamorous past.
On the lower deck are four guest cabins with bathroom and crew accommodation. Heading up to the main deck, you will find a bar and lounge, dining room and kitchen. Further upstairs you will find the owner’s suite on the upper deck (or boat deck), along with a stylish outdoor deck with a dining table and lounge area.
On the upper bridge deck are the captain’s cabin, the chief’s cabin and another bathroom.
Kalizma can accommodate up to 10 guests and 10 crew members, including the captain
