Inside £1.8million Chelsea flat where Kate and Pippa Middleton lived

The two properties are just a stone’s throw from each other, but the Princess of Wales’s former London apartment is on a very different scale from the palace she would later call home.
Kate Middleton, now 41, and her younger sister Pippa shared the three-bedroom Chelsea apartment after their parents, Michael and Carole, bought the house for £780,000 in 2002.
The sisters lived in the apartment while pursuing careers in buying and marketing for luxury brands, before moving out once Kate married Prince William in April 2011.
Carole and Michael put the property up for sale for £1.95m in 2018, but it was sold below the guide price of £1.88m in September 2019.
Snapshots of the house taken when it was put up for sale show a fresh and modern interior, with three cozy bedrooms and a luxurious dining room.

After meeting Prince William at St Andrew’s University, Kate worked as a part-time accessory buyer for Jigsaw Junior in London.
It was during this time that she lived in Chelsea, not far from fashionable King’s Road, with Pippa before the sisters moved in with their husbands.
When it came up for sale in 2019, luxury real estate agents Knight Frank’s property listing revealed the design and interiors of the luxurious townhome.
Located on a chic street in a sought after area, the apartment, which is spread over three floors, has clean white interiors and cream-coloured carpets.
The property is also decorated with traditional furniture, oriental-style rugs and comfortable sofas.
The brick-fronted period conversion was said to include three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a reception room.
It was described as a “well-appointed” apartment “in the heart of Old Chelsea”.
Being a duplex on the top floor, it enjoys excellent views over the city and its large windows let in a lot of light.
While the size of the home was a far cry from the 20-bedroom Kensington Palace apartment that Kate would later occupy with her husband and three children, the decor was certainly fit for a princess.
One bedroom is decorated in neutral colors and furnished with London-themed cushions, patterned curtains, and traditional furniture.
The living room or reception room featured splashes of colour, with a red sofa, rug and artwork, as well as a marble fireplace.
The property has two bathrooms tiled in gold marble with modern fittings. The house is also distributed over three floors.
The classic style of the house was reflected in the furniture in each room.
A spacious dining room was furnished with patterned curtains and traditional furniture.
This included an old-fashioned gilt mirror and a large antique dining table.
The calm, neutral colors of the sideboards and walls suggest the use of Mrs Middleton’s favorite painting from Farrow & Ball and Cord and Hay, according to The Sunday Times.
Colorful books also lined the shelves, as well as blue lapis lazuli vases and selected artworks, which seem to show scenes from the countryside.
French windows opened onto a balcony, offering a place to get some air in built-up London.
In the living room, a striking red sofa and rug stood out against the more natural tones of another cream sofa, giving the apartment a more homey feel.
The rooms also seemed homey and have a country house style with floral curtains and big cozy beds.
But a London theme was evident in one, with red double-decker buses embroidered on a pair of accent pillows.
The kitchen seemed slightly less spacious than the other rooms in the house, featuring oak cabinets with black marble countertops and modern fixtures.

The bedrooms are decorated in calm, neutral colors and simple furniture, although it is not known which belonged to Kate and which to Pippa.

The stairwell and landing of Chelsea’s flat had a plain white wall, with minimalist artwork decorating the walls.
After sharing a flat with her sister, Kate married William and the couple moved into a four-bedroom cottage on the Bodorgan Estate in Anglesey, North Wales, while he completed his RAF training.
Prince William and Kate then moved into Apartment 1A in 2013 after the birth of Prince George.
The family of five lived in the impressive 20-bedroom house at Kensington Palace, which was close to the residences of other royals and had a view of Hyde Park.
The royal couple lived there while raising their children, George, Charlotte and Louis, until last year and have since moved into the four-bed Adelaide Cottage on the royal Windsor estate.
Pippa married hedge fund billionaire James Matthews and the couple spent £1.2 million renovating their five-story London mansion, which already featured a gym, underground cinema, lift, a ” staff room” and six bedrooms.
The couple then spent around £15 million on one of Berkshire’s most beautiful stately homes with her investment banker husband.
