Eleven people on a Delta Air Lines flight were hospitalized yesterday after the plane encountered turbulence en route to Atlanta, Georgia, officials said.
Shocking footage captured by appalled passengers showed several victims being carried off the plane while held aloft on the shoulders of paramedics, while others clenched ice packs to their heads to reduce swelling from painful shocks.
Flight 175 had left Milan, Italy, on Tuesday and was about 40 miles northeast of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport when the crew reported severe turbulence, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said it would investigate.
A couple who were passengers on the flight told Fox5: ‘It looked like about twelve people with serious head injuries. Also some flight attendants. A lot of blood and horror.
“My fiancée and I are so shocked that we rent a car and drive to our final destination.”
The couple said all passengers were kept on board for another two hours while the injured were examined.

The Airbus A350 landed safely at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday evening.
Delta later confirmed that 11 passengers had been hospitalized, but did not provide further details about the injuries or the condition of the people involved.
The plane had 151 passengers, 10 flight attendants and four pilots on board, Delta said.
“Delta Care Team members are mobilizing to engage with customers,” the airline said in a statement.
A spokesperson later added that Delta agents provided food, shelter and rebooking for the uninjured customers.
“Our priority is to take care of our customers and crew members who have been injured. We are thankful for the first responders who met the plane to provide medical assistance and transport the injured to (the) hospital.”
