Ingrid Andress breaks her silence after disastrous national anthem performance made her laughing stock at MLB Home Run Derby: ‘I was drunk’

Country singer Ingrid Andress admitted she was “drunk” when she sang the national anthem during the MLB Home Run Derby.

On Tuesday, she broke her silence and announced that she plans to check into rehab after her performance was so widely criticized.

“I’m not going to kid you, I was drunk last night,” she wrote on social media after her extremely off-key performance became national news on Monday night.

“I’m going to check myself into a facility today to get the help I need. I wasn’t there last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country that I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let you know what it’s like to rehab. I hear it’s super fun,” she added, before signing off, “xo, Ingrid.”

Andress, a four-time Grammy-nominated artist, was compared to Fergie after her song went viral for all the wrong reasons, with some saying she sang much worse than the former Black-Eyed Peas lead singer during the 2020 NBA All-Star Game.

“Ingrid Andress gives Fergie a shot at the title of worst national anthem ever performed,” someone wrote on X after the performance.

“My ears are bleeding. One of the worst national anthem performances ever,” someone else shared.

A third added: ‘That Ingrid Andress anthem might be the worst thing to happen to America in the last 48 hours #brutal.’

The 32-year-old singer previously reached the Billboard Hot 100 with her 2019 single “More Hears Than Mine,” which peaked at number 30.

In 2021, she was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Song, but lost to The Highwomen.

Andress’ latest hit, “Wishful Thinking,” featuring Sam Hunt, was nominated for a Grammy last year.
