Influencer reveals the shocking new scam targeting Aussie social media stars to collect their highly personal information

Comedian Ash Williams has urged Australian influencers to be diligent after being targeted in an email scam.

Taking to Instagram, the 42-year-old revealed he had been asked to be a guest on a US podcast with designer Jennifer Welch.

The media personality said he was contacted by Welch’s alleged manager Stefan, who offered him $2,000 USD to appear as a guest on an episode of Jennifer’s podcast via Facebook live.

After agreeing to the offer, Ash was told he would be paid in advance and booked for the following week.

Stefan later emailed back asking to arrange a Zoom meeting to ensure Ash’s Facebook was ready for the live event.

Ash noticed that Stefan, who reportedly spoke with a Scandinavian accent, had turned off his camera after logging into the Zoom meeting.

During the Zoom meeting, Stefan asked Ash to share his Facebook page.

“So I’m on Facebook and he says, ‘Oh, I see you’re not ready for live events. You need to email yourself a link and then send me the link.’ I think this might be unreliable,” Ash revealed.

As the Zoom call continued, Ash’s friend, who was sitting nearby, noticed Stefan’s suspicious behavior and urged Williams to end the call.

Ash said that to test Stefan’s authenticity, he asked him to call back, but he never heard back.

“My friend looked it up and this podcast scam continues to offer entertainers and influencers blah blah blah about $2,000 to go on a podcast,” Ash revealed.

‘I don’t know what the end goal is for Stefan. “I think he just wanted to get on the back of my Facebook and I think I stopped him,” he added.

One content creator commented on the video to share his experience, writing, “I get so much out of it. Always wondered what the scam was. Thanks for explaining. You don’t know anything about show business.’
