Infamous brothel madam Stormy Summers who fought to legalise sex work and ran for lord mayor dies aged 77

A notorious brothel owner who pushed for sex work to be legalized and even ran for mayor of Adelaide has died.

Stormy Summers is said to have died on Sunday after a short illness at Lyell McEwin Hospital, just three days before her 78th birthday.

Ms Summers was one of the city’s most famous madams and a controversial figure with alleged underworld links and run-ins with police.

Close friend Martin Herren told The Advertiser on Tuesday that news of Ms Summer’s death had come as a shock.

‘I spent three hours with her on Saturday evening and she seemed to be on the mend. “I’m devastated,” he said.

In addition to her political leanings, Ms Summers was also known for her black BMW with the license plates ‘STORMY’.
