Ineos delays electric vehicles due to low demand and tougher net zero rules expected under Labour government

Delay: Ineos Automotive postpones launch of its Fusilier jeep (photo)

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s car company has delayed production of its electric SUV due to lack of demand and stricter net-zero emissions rules expected under a Labour government.

Ineos Automotive is postponing the launch of its Fusilier jeep, which would use a small petrol engine to charge the battery.

However, the company expects this will conflict with the ban on the sale of new petrol cars in Europe from 2035, after Labour pledged to bring forward the ban in the UK to 2030.

Sir Jim, the petrochemical tycoon who also co-owns Manchester United Football Club, outlined plans for the electric SUV in February. Ineos has not said when it will launch the Fusilier, which had been scheduled for release in 2027.
