Renowned Indigenous artist Esme Timbery has died at the age of 92.
The Bidjigal artist was known for her intricate shell art, which she created from shells she collected on the beaches of New South Wales.
Her career spanned more than 80 years and her award-winning art has been exhibited in galleries across Australia and around the world.
She won the 2005 Parliament of NSW Indigenous Art Prize for her work with a Sydney Harbor Bridge theme.

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) paid tribute to her lifelong work in 2019 by naming the theater after her.
Timbery expressed how honored she was by the move at the time, saying, “I hope that publicly displaying my name on this building will inspire our young people to follow their college dreams, especially in the arts, in the years to come. ‘
UNSW sent a condolence message after the artist’s death was announced.
“Esme Timbery shared the magic of garnetwork with all of us and UNSW was thrilled to allow us to name a building in her honour,” a spokesperson said.
