Colts owner Jim Irsay says a new head coach will be announced ‘in days, not hours’ … as Indianapolis finally closes in on a full-time replacement for fired game caller Frank Reich after he interim Jeff Saturday will win just one game

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay’s tweets seem to indicate the team is close to naming its next head coach.

After firing head coach Frank Reich midway through the season, the Colts look set to move on to the next phase of their franchise.

The team has the fourth overall pick and is considering drafting a future franchise quarterback. Fans are hoping the team looks to pair whoever the new quarterback is with a top-notch head coach.

“We said, as an Organization (Colts) … The search for coaches would be a thorough and open-minded process.” Irsay tweeted Tuesday.

‘And the final decision would be strictly based on what’s best for the success of our franchise and what’s best for the success of our franchise and what’s best for our Colts Nation fans. The final decision will come in days, not hours.

Indianapolis fired former head coach Frank Reich midway through the 2022 season

Reich lasted just nine games last season, and was fired by the organization after having been in charge since the 2018 season.

Since then, he has been named as the new head coach of the Carolina Panthers.

Instead, Irsay hired ESPN analyst and former Colts center Jeff Saturday as interim head coach, despite having no coaching experience at the college or professional level.

Saturday managed only one win in his time in charge, as the Colts fell to finish 4-12-1 on the season.

The Colts’ coaching search includes Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Eagles OC Shane Steichen, Packers special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Giants DC Wink Martindale according to NFL.com.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo also noted that the team narrowed its coaching hire list to just a few candidates.

Furious Colts fans launched a petition last month to prevent Saturday from getting the head coaching job.

The inexperienced Jeff Saturday was put in charge on an interim basis, winning just one game.
