Indiana Jones and the Great Circle made me motion sick until I changed these settings
Greetings, fellow queasy traveler who just wanted to enjoy himself Indiana Jones and the Great Circle but I couldn’t play for more than an hour straight. You’ve come to the right place. I also couldn’t handle the strange head movement our hero makes in this first-person game. Through a combination of tweaks to the settings in the options menu, I managed to make the game playable for myself — and probably for you, too.
Is it still a little dizzy sometimes? Yes. Do I still wish the team at MachineGames would remove the head bob completely? Yes. Please. But until that happens, these are my suggestions for getting through this adventure.
First, open the options menu and go to the section called ‘Video’. In that section you can start implementing my most effective change, which unfortunately will only be available in this menu if you play on PC and not on console. This suggestion is wrong increase the Field of View slider to at least 100. You can even set it to 110 if you want; try different levels and see what works best for you.
These next options are available on both console and PC. Go to Motion Blur and set it to “off” (apologies for this specific artistic decision).
The last setting in this section that you might consider is called “Photo frames” — it’s at the top of the list in the screenshot above. I got my whole game in “Cinematic” modemeaning that both the gameplay and cutscenes have constant black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. The game is intended to resemble a movie. To be honest, I don’t like the way it looks (and I think it’s a corny conceit), but it seems to help reduce my nausea levels.
We’re still not done. Then navigate to the “Accessibility” menu.
You can also adjust the field of view and motion blur here, but you’ve already done that, right?
More importantly, you’ll want it set Camera Stabilization to “on”, And Shake screen to ‘off’.
Finally, try to sit further away from your screen when you play. It will help with this problem. And while you’re in this menu, you can enlarge the subtitles to allow for a greater distance from the screen.
If all else fails, and you’re playing on PC, just wait until someone makes a mod that fixes Indy’s tendency to bob his head every time he takes a single step – or a mod that changes the entire game into set third person mode (it is certainly possible). Until then, these are the band-aids we have.
