Indiana Fever hire Stephanie White as Caitlin Clark’s new coach after firing Christie Sides
The Indiana Fever hire Stephanie White as the team’s next head coach after a two-year stint at the helm of the Connecticut Sun.
White is a former Fever player and coach, having spent 11 previous years with the organization.
Before Caitlin Clark arrived, White was the last coach to take the Fever to the postseason in 2016.
White replaces Christie Sides as Indiana’s head coach, who was fired last week.
Clark changed the trajectory of Indiana, and possibly the entire WNBA, with her rookie season, leading to seven of the league’s 12 teams changing head coaches this offseason.
Clark’s new head coach has been revealed as Stephanie White, a familiar face in Indiana
White previously played for the team from 2000-2004 and was on the team’s staff for six years
The Fever had their best season since White’s departure in 2024 with a sixth-place finish in the standings and a spot in the postseason before falling to White’s Sun side in the first round of the playoffs in consecutive games.
The Sun lost in five games in the WNBA semifinals to eventual league runner-up Minnesota.
White played for the Fever from 2000 through 2004, returning to the franchise in 2011 and serving as an assistant coach with the team through 2014.
The Purdue alumnus was then head coach of the Fever for two seasons.
In between coaching stints in the WNBA, White spent five years as head coach of the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team.
Expectations for the Fever will be sky high in 2025, with Clark having time to rest this offseason after her Rookie of the Year effort this year.
White also returning to coach the team after having more success elsewhere will raise expectations that the Fever could soon win their first WNBA championship since 2012.
