Indian fans at World Cup final are slammed for ‘deeply embarrassing’ treatment of Aussie stars as they stormed to victory

Indian fans have been branded ‘pathetic and immature’ for their reaction to Australia’s incredible final victory in the Cricket World Cup.

Spectators at the 130,000-seat Narendra Modi Stadium gave a curious reaction during the trophy presentation as Pat Cummins’ side were crowned world champions for the sixth time on Sunday.

On-field referees Richard Kettleborough and Richard Illingworth were booed by the crowd for apparently no apparent reason, while no controversial decisions were made during the match.

Travis Head, who scored a stunning century to win the match for Australia, was met with silence as he also reached triple figures at the crease.

“Around 80 people among the over 11,000 crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium clapped their hands as Travis Head raised his bat after reaching 50,” cricket journalist Bharat Sundaresan said on Twitter.

“It must feel like an end-of-season #SheffieldShield match at the Adelaide Oval.”

Indian comedian Anshu Mor was equally scathing about the treatment of the Australians.

‘Crowd booing the referees receiving medals and then shouting Rohit Rohit as the Australian team received their medals – absolute d***heads!!’ he posted online.

“Cities with a great cricketing culture like Mumbai, Chennai or Calcutta should host these big matches.”

The Indian team was also nowhere to be seen when Australia was presented with the famous trophy on Sunday, a point noted by Michael Vaughan.

“I didn’t like seeing the Indian team staying on the field to watch the Aussies lift the trophy,” he said.
