Indian cricket fan, 35, dies of heart attack after World Cup final defeat to Australia

A 35-year-old Indian cricket fan died of a heart attack on Sunday after his country’s World Cup final defeat to Australia.

Jyotish Kumar Yadav, a software engineer in Bengaluru, had returned home during the Diwali holidays to watch the much-awaited match on TV with his friends and family.

However, after India were bowled out for 240 when they batted first, Mr Yadav’s friends said he became ‘tense and anxious’, the Times of India reports.

When India then took three quick Australian wickets as they bowled, he was said to be ‘waving for joy’.

However, as Australia started to inch closer to their 240 target, he complained of chest pain and collapsed soon after India lost.

He was then immediately rushed to Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia Government General Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead

Tirupati Urban Development Authority (Tuda) chairman Mohith Redy visited his home in Durgasamudram village on Monday to offer his condolences.

He also extended support to the family on behalf of the state government.

Nearly 100,000 cricket fans packed the Narendra Modi Stadium for the final, while millions watched on television in anticipation of an Indian victory.

But after going through the tournament undefeated, India was defeated at the last hurdle.

Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first as his side looked set to win their sixth title.

After the Australian’s victory, Indian trolls targeted the wife of cricket star Glenn Maxwell.
