On the anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that India faced the most heinous attack on the day but the country had the capabilities to recover from that attack and also tackle terrorism with to crush all his courage.
In his Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, Modi paid tribute to all those who died in the Mumbai attack and noted that the nation remembers the brave martyrs.
We can never forget November 26th. It was on this day that the country’s most horrific terrorist attack took place. Terrorists had shocked Mumbai and the entire country. But it is India’s capacity that we have recovered from that attack and now we are also crushing terrorism with full courage, he asserted.
On November 26, 2008, ten Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists from Pakistan arrived via the sea route and opened fire, killing 166 people, including 18 security personnel, and wounding several others during a 60-hour siege in Mumbai.
The Prime Minister also noted that November 26 is also important for another reason as the Constituent Assembly had adopted the Constitution of India on this day in 1949.
I remember when we were celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar in 2015, the idea of celebrating November 26 as Constitution Day came up. I wish everyone on Constitution Day, he said.
All of us together, by prioritizing the duties of the citizens, will certainly fulfill the resolve to make the country developed, Modi said.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister also said that during recent festivals, business worth around Rs 4 lakh crore took place and there was a lot of enthusiasm among people to buy Indian-made products.
Modi also questioned the practice of some families organizing weddings abroad and urged everyone to hold such celebrations in the country.
