Parties from the INDIA bloc protested in Parliament on Tuesday to demand a rollback of the 18 percent goods and services tax (GST) on life and health insurance premiums.

MPs from various parties including TMC, Congress, AAP and NCP (SC) took part in the protest on the steps leading to the Makar Dwar of Parliament.

The protesting MPs carried banners reading “Tax Terrorism” and called for a rollback of VAT on life and health insurance premiums.

Trinamool Congress MPs have raised the issue in Parliament and party president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in this regard.

Minister Nitin Gadkari also wrote to Sitharaman urging her to consider abolishing GST, which he said amounted to taxing uncertainties in life and restricting the growth of industry.
