India and British ministers will discuss the annual IGF at the election turning point
Newly reappointed Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw will make his maiden intervention on an international stage at the annual India Global Forum (IGF) in London from Monday.
His virtual address will outline the immediate priorities of the Modi 3.0 government and the opportunities for global partners to participate in the Viksit Bharat initiative to become a developed nation by 2047. On the British side, Foreign Secretary in charge of South Asia, Lord Tariq Ahmad, will lead the Conservative Party’s highlights of the government’s bilateral partnership.
The week-long event comes at a turning point, shortly after the Indian general election and at the height of Britain’s campaign for the July 4 general election. In line with the non-partisan vision of IGF London, Opposition Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy will set out his vision for strategic ties between India and Britain under any future Labor Party-led government.
As we enter a new era in Britain-India relations, we need new ideas not just for these two countries but also for global partners, said Manoj Ladwa, Founder and Chairman of the India Global Forum, headquartered in Great Britain.
IGF London will be a catalyst for ideas, collaborations and conversations, driving innovation, economic growth and social progress worldwide. By leveraging the unique shared values and strengths of this bilateral relationship, we aim to address global challenges and create a collaborative platform for a better future, he said.
The stalled free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations amid both countries’ election cycles and the 2030 roadmap for Britain-India relations will be high on the agenda of a diverse series of sessions for the forum.
In a session titled ‘It’s a Woman’s India’, former Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani will reflect on the changing role of women in India’s socio-economic landscape, while highlighting government initiatives aimed at empowering women in India.
To explore how companies can best invest in and benefit from India’s growth story, experts including Kiran Mazumdar Shaw of Biocon and Sanjeev Sanyal, member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, will offer their insights.
The IGF London is now in its sixth address and has been addressed in the past by both British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and opposition leader Keir Starmer. It will culminate in the annual UK-India Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations that are driving the bilateral partnership forward.
