She continued: ‘My leg was immediately cut off and I was spun around and landed face-back on my stomach.

‘I saw the next set of wheels on the train rolling towards me, so I rolled to the side and hugged myself against the platform wall.

‘I did a little check, I saw that my leg was gone. I thought my foot might be broken, I had to kick off my shoe.

‘Besides it was really just bumps and bruises, I started shouting for help for the people waiting for the train.

“After a few minutes no one came to help, I thought I had to find a way out of these tracks.”

With all her strength, Fitzgerald managed to pull herself onto the edge of the platform and to safety.

She continued ‘I kept shouting for help and a ticket collector came by and I got his attention.

‘He went outside, I kept shouting, he found a police officer who came and called for help and from there I went to the hospital.’
