Inbetweeners fans go crazy as Joe Thomas and James Buckley reunite almost ten years after the end of the hit comedy

Inbetweeners fans went crazy when James Buckley reunited with Joe Thomas in a pub on Monday night.

James, 36, played sex-crazed teenager Jay Cartwright in the E4 sitcom alongside Joe, 39, as Simon Cooper – and the pair were seen enjoying a friendly reunion almost a decade after the comedy wrapped.

The actors posed with their arms around each other and showed that their friendship is still going strong, almost a decade after the hit franchise – which followed four teenage boys working their way through sixth grade – ended for good.

James captioned the post: “So glad we grew out of that awkward teenage phase!”

Fans went wild over the surprising photo and immediately clamored for a reboot of the series.

‘Fwends’ reunited! Inbetweeners fans went crazy when stars Joe Thomas (L) and James Buckley reunited more than a decade after the hit show ended

Together again! Joe and James (right and second right) starred together in The Inbetweeners (pictured with co-stars Simon Bird and Blake Harrison in 2011)

One wrote: ‘Time to get the band back together guys’, while another suggested ‘Inbetweeners as parents…we’re all waiting’

Even their co-star Blake Harrison – who starred on the show as the lovable but vague Neil Sutherland – got in on the act when he posted a heart-eyed emoji in the comments section.

During its initial run, the sitcom included three series and two films.

The franchise wrapped in 2014 and the stars have all since moved on to other projects.

Simon Bird – who played the studious Will McKenzie – had a long-running role in Friday Night Dinner, while Blake appeared opposite Brenda Blethyn in the short-lived ITV1 sitcom Kate and played Koji and Joe in White Gold.

James has ‘surprised’ himself by becoming the highest-paid star on Cameo after raking in £1million by handing out personalized messages for fans on the celebrity website.

The actor recently explained that despite the success of the series, a reboot could never be planned because the jokes would no longer be possible today.

He said: ‘It was all justified because they were never the heroes. They were idiots and they got what they deserved.

Beg for more! One fan suggested an idea for a spin-off where the boys would become parents

Detached! Another fan stressed that it was time to get the gang back together after being out of the picture for so long

Heart eyes! Even Blake Harrison – who played dim-witted Neil Sutherland on the show – got in on the action

‘That’s why it can’t come back. You can’t have guys in their late 30s acting like they’re in sixth grade and getting away with it.”

James added that despite constantly being asked to bring the show back, there is “no amount of money” that made him agree to it.

“I always get asked if I would ever do more and I said, ‘For no money’ and that quote was walked off. I didn’t mean about money; it means more to me than money.”

‘I’m always surprised by the success of anything’

Success story: The series even spawned two films, but James doesn’t believe it could ever return (The Inbetweeners 2, 2014)
