The Sims 4it’s new Blinded by love expansion has a bunch of quality-of-life updates that apply to the base game, meaning they’re free for everyone — regardless of whether you buy the expansion or not. One of these is to the Create-A-Sim menu: You can now set two Sims as partners, so you no longer have to high-five to start a relationship.
Let me explain. When you create a household in The Sims, you can set up different relationships; you can set Sims to be spouses, siblings, and more, but there was no way to set up a romantic relationship for an unmarried couple. The Sims 4 Players will need to be creative in order to quickly take that relationship to the desired point, from friendship to love. There are a lot of ways to do this, like taking repeated selfies or just giving a few high-fives before you start flirting. But with the Blinded by love expansion, that is no longer the case. You can partner Sims directly from the Create-A-Sim menu, meaning they start out with a basic romantic relationship.
The expansion also makes relationships more complex over the base game update, with new settings that define romantic boundaries. These settings all revolve around jealousy — does your Sim get jealous if they engage in a “non-physical romance” with someone else? What about if they engage in a “physical romance” — other than WooHooing? What if they WooHoo with someone else? And are they open to changing their boundaries? All of these questions can be answered with yes or no. It’s a new setting that can lead to drama, but also opens up the possibility of more types of relationships, including polyamory.
There is also another base game option that The Sims 4 Streamers will be excited about: In the game options menu, there’s a new checkbox that forces the game to only play streaming-friendly music – meaning there’s nothing to get you in trouble with copyright licensing. During a press event, The Sims 4 team said more streaming-friendly music will be added in the future.
