In Dragon’s Dogma 2, the bosses are so big that you have to climb them

Action RPG Dragon dogma 2 encourages you to think big and invites you to scale up the game’s massive bosses as you struggle to keep them down.

As part of Tokyo Game Show 2023, we got our hands on an early build of Capcom’s dark fantasy adventure. We grabbed a sword and shield and did our best to take the fight to one of the game’s first bosses: a towering Cyclops with arms like tree trunks. As you would expect we struggled to block the attacks so climbing became the best option. Frantically scrambling for the monster’s neck as it punched back and forth and fought back made for a great set piece, allowing us to do massive damage and come out on top.

Luckily, Capcom has also released a deep dive preview video, where you can see the exciting boss fight yourself.

The deep dive trailer also shows off the game’s four basic vocations (the game classes): Fighter, Mage, Thief, and Archer. Each of these offers a distinctive playstyle, giving you vastly different tools for your adventuring arsenal.

We also get a good look at the Cyclops boss fight, seeing the monster climbing mechanics in action. Additionally, the trailer showed how environments in Dragon dogma 2 can be used to your advantage: halfway through the video we see the player blowing up a dam and hitting the Cyclops with a torrent of water.

The preview also reveals a range of areas in the game, including the verdant human kingdom of Vermund and the arid canyons of Battahl. We also get to see two advanced classes: the Mystic Spearhand and the Magick Archer. The first is “a good all-rounder” who can use magic to block enemy movements. The latter, on the other hand, specializes in long-range attacks in addition to support spells.

We don’t know when yet Dragon dogma 2 will launch, but if this trailer and our hands-on time with the game are anything to go by, Capcom’s fantasy action RPG could be a breath of fresh air for the genre.
