In a year of delays, this stomach-turning horror FPS will release early
>
After months of major gaming delays, an upcoming horror FPS is going against the trend by releasing a whole week earlier than expected.
After a downright gross gameplay reveal two years ago, and another reveal at Summer Game Fest, the twisted shooter Scorn comes out on Friday, October 14. You can jump into the twisted world of biomechanical horrors seven days earlier than previously thought.
Developer Ebb Software hasn’t given a reason for the new release date, but has released an (appropriately scary) new trailer announcing the change – you can check it out below. Scorn is exclusive to Xbox Series X|S and PC, coming to Xbox Game Pass on launch day
Change of pace
The Xbox exclusive console is inspired by the biomechanical art of HR Giger (who you may know best as the visual designer of Ridley Scott’s Alien) and the gothic surrealism of Zdzisław Beksiński (who painted a lot of horribly scary skeleton art that pops up every now and then). internet). Expect to see lots of organic looking architecture and sinewy guns. It’s all very horrible.
Fans have been waiting a long time for the release of Scorn. The game started in 2017 as a Kickstarter project and was initially set to launch the following year. After that year passed, it was scheduled for 2021, before being postponed again to this year. It looks like Ebb Software is confident there won’t be another delay.
An early release is a novelty in today’s game industry. This year, many major triple-A games have been delayed as developers recover from pandemic disruptions and the usual unexpected game development issues. Starfield was delayed until 2023, as were Forspoken and Lord of the Rings Gollum. Hogwarts Legacy was also pushed back, along with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Ubisoft’s beleaguered swashbuckler Skull and Bones also just got delayed.
Those delays have led to a plethora of games being released in the last few months of this year, giving Scorn a short window of time to fit in before all the blockbuster titles take up our time. Like all best horror games, the developers of Scorn know that timing matters.
