Imran Khan is shot in the foot in assassination attempt as gunman opens fire on his convoy during protest march calling for early elections in Pakistan
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was shot in the foot during an assassination attempt at a rally.
A gunman opened fire on Khan’s convoy as he led a protest march to Islamabad to demand snap elections, with a bullet hitting the former prime minister in the foot.
Video shows an unsteady Khan, wearing a bandage on his foot, being helped out of an open truck by his supporters and being carefully placed in a vehicle.
The politician was rushed to hospital, with local media reporting that he is out of danger. Some of Khan’s supporters were also injured in the attack.
Footage from the scene also appears to show the gunman firing at Khan’s convoy. A second man tries to get the gun from the gunman, but he manages to escape.

Eight people, including Senator Faisal Javed Khan, were injured after gunmen opened fire near Wazirabad, a city in northern Pakistan.

Khan and his supporters were heading for the capital Islamabad in a large convoy of trucks and cars as part of his campaign to force the government to hold early elections.
The attack took place less than a week after Khan started his march from Lahore, the capital of the Punjab province, along with thousands of supporters.
Since his impeachment in a vote of no confidence in parliament in April, Khan has alleged that his impeachment was a conspiracy set up by his successor, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and the United States — claims that both the new prime minister and Washington have denied.
