I’m visiting Australia from America and I can’t get past the time everyone wakes up here

An American traveling in Australia has shared her shock at how early Australians go to bed and wake up in the morning.

Mia Denhart said she has not gone to bed until midnight or woken up after 8.30am in the two and a half weeks since arriving in Australia.

She had trouble falling asleep at midnight because she woke up at 6am and said she had seen Aussies getting up at the crack of dawn, walking, running or going to the shops.

Many tourists and expats agreed that Mia agreed, but Australians were skeptical.

'Australians went to bed so early. I should have been asleep three hours ago. I have to wake up at 6am and that's too late for them,” she said in a TikTok clamp when she lay awake in bed at midnight.

“Australians are running around going to the beach and doing their daily shopping at five in the morning – what?”

Mia said midnight was the last time she had been awake since arriving in Australia almost three weeks ago.

“And I woke up at 8:30 yesterday, the last time I've woken up in the entire time I've been here,” she added.

Mia's video quickly racked up over 2.5 million views and sparked a heated debate in the comments.

“Fit people who work full time and have dogs to walk get up at that time or parents,” one woman explained.

“Waking up at 9am is WILD – half the day is over for an Australian, mate,” argued a second.

“That's funny, because I noticed once in Bluey that Chilli said, 'Oh Bingo, you slept an hour late, it's almost seven o'clock,' or something like that, and I thought, 'That's early asf!' , one mother recalled.

'I was so surprised when I moved there too! Lots of people on the streets and cafes at 7am on Sundays, cafes close at 3pm on weekdays,” someone added.

Some Aussies were convinced that people Down Under are early risers, with one saying: 'I don't know which Aussies you see doing their shopping at 5am?!!!'.

'Wait, where do you find these Australians!?? I'm Australian and go to bed at midnight most nights and only wake up early for work,” said another.
