The TikToker, known for her clever cleaning hacks, shared with her 301,000 followers and recommended buying peppermint oil to drive them away.

As she cleaned the inside of her windows with the oil, she explained, “My household is terrified of spiders, so we always add peppermint oil to cotton wool and wipe down the entryways because they hate the smell.”

Her next trick was to stay on top of the cleanup, she said: “We always make sure to clear out storage areas regularly to minimize the space they can hide in and always keep it clean.”

TikToker’s latest hack was pruning the outdoor foliage, she said: ‘We cut back all vegetation around the perimeter of the house as spiders use these as pathways indoors.

Interior design expert Nic Shacklock said: ‘The mating season for spiders gets into full swing in late August through to September, meaning many of us could be dealing with an infestation.’

According to the experts, spraying white vinegar in dark corners and sealing small cracks are some of the best ways to keep them out of your home.

They urged people to get on top of this before spider eggs are laid, which could lead to an infestation.

He added: ‘Spiders hate the smell of lavender and mint, so it’s worth spreading these scents around your home.’

For the terrified arachnophobes, Nic added: ‘It’s also important to seal any holes in the house that they might be able to crawl through.
