I’m refusing to go to my best friend’s wedding because he didn’t invite my girlfriend – I don’t care if I’m throwing away years of friendship

  • The individual shared his harsh stance in a controversial post on Reddit

A man has been criticized after he refused to attend his best friend's wedding because he had not invited his partner.

In Reddit's popular Am I the A**shole thread, user @NotAMeteor explained how the groom asked him to be the best man, to which he initially agreed.

However, after the official invitations were distributed, he dramatically changed his mind after seeing that his girlfriend only received an invitation to the evening ceremony.

He said only 50 people were invited to the ceremony, rising to 100 for the evening, and any additional seating will cost them money.

After discovering that the bride and groom had invited people they met online while playing video games, the best man said it “feels like a bit of a slap in the face, being the best man and not getting any space.”

“He tried to explain it rationally because there was no room for her, but I stuck to my guns, I know this might make me feel like a hole in the sky because I'm throwing away years of friendship for something that probably won't be a big deal.” was a problem. attention to them,” he added.

In response to his original post, other users criticized the best man for his stance, arguing that he had no right to feel offended about the situation because it wasn't his wedding.

One user replied: 'They have limited space and want to keep the wedding on a budget. It's not up to you to decide who watches the ceremony and who doesn't. Your friend has an invitation to the evening reception. It is really up to the bride and groom who they want to attend the morning portion and how they tie the knot.”

Another scathingly responded: “Lol you can't be serious? Pulling out as best man at his best friend's wedding when he had already said yes because his new girlfriend didn't get an invite to a small ceremony is petty and it absolutely makes him look like an asshole.'

Others disagreed, with a third replying: 'Yes, so much for the 'excuse' of not enough space lol. You are not the hole'.

'The point of contention with me is more that if we were together in a year when the wedding was coming up, I'd like to think she was an established member of the group, I wouldn't think about not dating my best friend's partners asking about the most important day of my life.'

With over 1,000 replies to the thread since it was first posted to Reddit, there seemed to be a major divide over whether or not he had the right to respond so angrily.

Whether he will ultimately be the best man at his friend's wedding remains to be seen.
