Callum Wilson has boldly declared that he will be in the England squad for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
The Newcastle striker has four caps for the Three Lions but his last appearance came in a Euro 2020 qualifier against Bulgaria in October 2019.
However, he has started the season strongly and has scored twice in the Magpies’ first three league matches.

That appears to have given Wilson a renewed sense of confidence as he believes that he is an obvious pick to be one of Gareth Southgate’s options upfront in Qatar.
The 30-year-old said on the Footballer’s Football podcast: ‘You’re taking Harry Kane. Behind Harry Kane, you’re taking myself, Tammy Abraham is also doing well. You’ve got Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, who are also doing well.
‘I’m on the plane, Harry Kane’s on the plane. There’s going to be players travelling to the World Cup that don’t make the September squad. There’s always one or two players who come from nowhere.

Gareth Southgate was at St. James’ Park last weekend and watched Wilson first hand
‘For me, you’re going Kane, myself, Tammy Abraham, who’s a different kind of striker, and then you’re probably taking Danny Ings. That would probably be my four, form dependent.
‘I’m trying to do my talking on the pitch. I always say, I don’t want to talk my way into a squad. I want the football to do the talking for me.’
Southgate was in attendance at St. James’ Park last weekend as Newcastle drew 3-3 against Manchester City so he had the opportunity to watch Wilson first hand.
Wilson was forced off against Manchester City after complaining of muscle tightness
The striker scored to give the Magpies a 2-1 lead but was forced off in the second half after complaining of muscle tightness.
Eddie Howe is hopeful that the problem is not too serious, but Wilson does have a history of hamstring issues. He also spent a combined total of over five months on the sidelines last season with thigh and calf injuries.
Wilson has scored one goal for England, which came on his debut in a friendly against the USA in November 2018.
